Fuel Smart saves George Mullins €1800 per month

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) provided funding for HGV driver behaviour monitoring and training to reduce diesel fuel consumption and emissions in the road transport sector. The transport sector can reduce diesel imports by being smarter about how they use transport and by embracing new technologies to reduce fuel consumption.

The €450,000 grant to The Carlow Kilkenny Energy Agency Ltd enabled a strategic alliance to form between NIBC Corcra (Telematics provider), Leetherm (sustainable energy solutions provider) and Gencat Ltd (specialist professional driver training company) with Bord Na Mona as the Obligated Party, the recipient of accumulated carbon credits.

Through the alliance, the proceeds of fuel savings in the transport sector are delivered to support social housing and community group commercial building retrofit energy saving schemes. As an existing NIBC Corcra customer, Kilkenny based global horse transporter George had the telematics fitted to his fleet of 11 transporters. As part of the scheme his 15 drivers then underwent driver training with Gencat Ltd in 2017.
